The durian cold chain train arrived on time in Kunming, China, while the cross-border train slowly passed through Boten, Laos. By the first quarter of this year, the China-Laos Railway had transported over 50 million passengers and more than 56.4 million tons of cargo, both exceeding 50 million.
The China-Laos Railway, with its interconnected bridges and tunnels, was completed just over three years ago, and there were doubts at the time: with a small population and relatively underdeveloped economy along the route, would there be passengers? Would there be cargo to transport? Today, however, the railway has seen double-digit growth in cargo traffic for three consecutive years, and the number of inbound and outbound passengers has increased from 300 per day to as many as 1,300. A cross-border railway has created a rapid development acceleration.
