Yangtze River Delta Railways Unlock Potential of New High Speed Lines
On April 14, the 32-day Spring Travel period for the Yangtze River Delta Railway came to an end, with a total of over 85 million passengers transported, a YoY increase of more than 5%. Among these, new high-speed rail lines such as the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway and Hangzhou-Wenzhou High Speed Railway performed outstandingly, leading to an explosive growth in the short- and medium-distance passenger market. Over 20 stations saw a YoY increase in passenger volume of more than 30%.
The Spring Travel period, which began on March 14, coincided with the blooming season in South China, and many people took advantage of weekends to enjoy outings and family trips. The Yangtze River Delta Railway fully utilised the more than 700 kilometers of new lines opened last year, leveraging the region's beautiful scenery and rich tourism resources. They increased transport capacity, optimised service arrangements, and implemented a "daily timetable" approach for regular, weekend, peak and Spring Travel services. Measures such as coupling multiple high-speed trains and adding cars to normal-speed trains helped meet passenger demand. The radiating effect of new high-speed lines, such as the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway and Hangzhou-Wenzhou High Speed Railway, continued to strengthen, significantly boosting passenger flow at stations like Shanghainan Railway Station, Hangzhouxi Railway Station, Huangshanbei Railway Station and Jiangshan Railway Station.
