China's First Rail-Air Intermodal Cross-Border Train Successfully Operates
On the morning of April 21, China's first rail-air intermodal cross-border train completed its 4,500-kilometre rail journey, arriving at Urumqi Sanping Railway Station and starting its flight towards Europe. The successful operation of this train has opened a major cross-border logistics channel, injecting new momentum into the stability and smooth flow of international supply chains and industrial chains.
The inaugural train departed from Guangzhou International Port Station on April 18, reaching Urumqi Sanping Railway Station in 66 hours. After a swift short-distance transfer, it was transported to Urumqi International Airport's air logistics hub for security checks and customs clearance, then transferred to a cargo flight to Europe.
Previously, cross-border e-commerce goods from South China were mainly transported by road to Urumqi for consolidation, then shipped by air to Europe. By using rail transport, the new service ensures timely delivery, reduces logistics costs, and provides customers with a full-process service. The "rail + air" cross-border logistics network, with "Guangzhou goods transferred in Urumqi and delivered to Europe," improves transport efficiency by over 15% and is expected to save more than 10 million RMB in logistics costs annually.
